Standing Waves: Performing the music of Alvin Lucier

The Great Hall, University of Leeds, April 20 2013, 12:00-18:00 [directions ↠ ]
Free entry, and free parking available on campus (subject to availability).

Performances of the works of Alvin Lucier by staff and students of the School of Music at Leeds University, with guest performers. This is a mixed installation/concert event, there will be a timetable of pieces released (nearer to the event), the free-duration pieces will be run for 45-60mins, while shorter pieces will be played more than once across the day. Chairs will be provided around the room should you wish to sit and listen, but the audience are also free to move and explore the space.
The focus of the event is on pieces involving resonance, from the sound of the room itself being layered up in an ever-increasing density of room-tone in "I am Sitting in a Room", to the audience participation of Chambers, where the acoustics of small found-objects are explored. The following list of pieces are currently being prepared, others may be added later.
